Digitisation Helped Businesses Thrive Through Covid-19 Pandemic

Digitisation Helped Businesses Thrive Through Covid-19 Pandemic

We’re approaching the 3-year milestone for the day the UK went into its first lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic, on the 23rd March 2020. This period was a difficult time for many businesses, with our daily routines changing dramatically overnight. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about unprecedented changes to the way we live and work, and businesses have had to adapt quickly in order to survive. One of the key ways that businesses have thrived during this time is through digitisation.

Digitisation For Businesses

Digitisation has allowed businesses to continue operating and serving customers even when physical storefronts and offices have been closed. Many businesses that were previously in-store only had to quickly adapt to an online model in order to stay afloat.

Online marketplaces, e-commerce platforms, and virtual consultations have become essential tools for businesses to reach customers and continue generating revenue throughout the pandemic. These platforms meant businesses could keep in touch with their customers and clients, no matter which stage of the pandemic they were in.

Making Digital Sales

One of the most obvious ways that businesses have digitised is through online sales. With physical storefronts closed, many companies have turned to online platforms like Amazon and Etsy to sell their products.

This has allowed them to reach a much larger customer base and continue to generate revenue. A survey conducted by the National Retail Federation found that e-commerce sales increased by 44% in 2020.

Even small businesses have been able to set up e-commerce websites with ease, and platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce and Magento have made it easy for them to sell their products online.

Digital Platforms And Channels

Another significant way that businesses have digitised during the pandemic is through the use of social media and other digital marketing channels.

With physical gatherings and events cancelled, businesses have had to find new ways to connect with customers and promote their products or services. Social media platforms have become essential tools for businesses to reach customers, build relationships, and drive sales.

The use of influencers, sponsored posts, and other forms of digital advertising has also increased as a way for businesses to reach new customers. This keeps a business’s brand awareness high, without having to be face-to-face with their customers.

Remote Work And Working From Home

Another way that businesses have digitised during the pandemic is through the use of video conferencing and collaboration tools. With many employees working from home, businesses have had to find new ways to communicate and collaborate effectively.

Remote work has also allowed businesses to tap into a global talent pool, enabling them to find the best people for the job regardless of their location.

Video conferencing platforms like Zoom and Google Meet, as well as collaboration tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams, have become essential tools for businesses to stay productive and connected.

Artificial Intelligence In Businesses

The pandemic has also led to an increase in the use of automation and AI in various industries. Businesses have had to find ways to continue operating with reduced staff, and automation has been a key way to do this.

AI-driven chatbots and virtual assistants have become increasingly popular, as they can help businesses provide 24/7 customer support and reduce the need for human interaction. By digitising their customer service operations, businesses have been able to continue to provide excellent service to their customers.
