Is Blogging Dead in 2025?

Is blogging dead in 2025? A woman sat at a desk blogging

It seems every year, the same old trope ‘blogging is dead’ gets revived and paraded around online SEO spaces, striking fear into the hearts of content strategists, copywriters, and good-old fashioned bloggers alike.

For years, blogging has been a cornerstone of effective Search Engine Optimisation strategy. Blogging allows site’s to diversify their keyword rankings, earn valuable backlinks, and establish themselves as an authority in their field.

However, in the ever-evolving digital landscape, there is almost an expectation that one year, blogging will finally ‘die’, with video marketing, social media marketing and AI-generated content all waiting in the wings to take its place.

But is blogging really dead in 2025? Well, this blog is here to prove it isn’t, so let’s dive in.

Why Blogging is Still Relevant in 2025

AI Falling short of the mark

AI generated content is everywhere, leading some to question whether an ‘AI apocalypse’ is on the horizon that will eliminate the need for human-written content. Surely the jobs of content writers and bloggers are threatened by AI tools that can mass-produce articles in minutes? Well, believe or not, there’s some things that AI can’t do…

Despite being a fountain of near-infinite knowledge, AI is restricted in how it can convey information. It can’t add human value to content – for example, it can’t offer opinions, or lived experiences of events.

It is also restricted in how it structures its content; it struggles to mimic the natural – and sometimes unpredictable flow – of human copy. AI content will therefore always expose itself as being too rigid, too robotic, to truly satisfy the search queries of online users.

This is essential when it comes to results page rankings, as search engines like Google prioritise content that meets the intent of search engine users. If the user wants opinions about a particular product, or answers to a question from an industry expert, AI-generated content isn’t going to cut the mustard.

AI can’t come up with unique answers, it merely re-phrases pre-existing content. It also can’t draw upon lived experience, or defend a particular opinion to enhance content quality.

Blogging will therefore always require a human touch – and will always be relevant if sites want to continue ranking for high-search volume keywords.

Blogs Still Help To Target ‘Informational’ Keywords

Even in the age of short-form videos and social media domination, sometimes a detailed, informative blog post is the only way to truly do justice to a particular topic.

If you were searching for “Hottest fashion brands in 2025”, or “Best travel tips for Barcelona”, an in-depth blog post would be the only way to comprehensively cover the topic whilst offering unique insight.

As Google seeks to reward sites that meet the search intent of its users, i.e. what it is specifically that they’re looking for, then sites with the most informative blog posts will continue to rank highly for keywords which are ‘informational’ in their intent.

Blogs thrive because they excel at meeting this ‘informational’ intent. So long as users continue to look online for beginner’s guides, industry insights, reviews, and opinion pieces, then blogging will always be relevant, as it is only these that can adequately satisfy such searches.

Sites that can offer the most informative blog content will therefore continue to reign supreme in 2025, unless Google drastically changes its algorithms or your parents stop going online to find out what guacamole is.

Backlink Sourcing

Another reason blogging refuses to roll over and die in 2025 is its unrivaled ability to help you earn backlinks. Producing high-quality, shareable content is the best way to obtain organic backlinks for your website. A backlink is a link from another site that points to your site, which is important for building up your trust score in the eyes of Google.

Organic backlinking strengthens your site’s authority as the more links your site obtains, the more credible and trustworthy your site will appear, and you will consequently be rewarded with higher rankings.

However, no one wants to link to a boring old product page or an “about us” section, they want to link to interesting, highly valuable content that’s worth sharing.

Whether it’s a detailed how-to guide, an insightful opinion piece, or a data-driven article, blogs provide real substance and value to your site that others will want to share.

What’s more, blogs make it easier to align with trending topics and industry developments. A hot take on the latest news, a new product review, or a well-researched ‘best of’ round-up piece can all become solid backlink-magnets.

Blogs will therefore continue to be relevant in allowing you to accumulate high-quality organic links from other websites that boost your site’s overall SEO performance.

Niche Keyword Rankings

Blogs are also still relevant as they allow you to better target niche keywords. For example, if you already rank for your main, short-tail keywords like ‘Vets Near Me‘, a blog that targets the long-tail keyword ‘Should I neuter my puppy?‘ allows you to diversify the number of keywords that you rank for. This increases the amount of avenues by which your site can attract organic traffic.

Conversely, if your site is struggling to rank for your main keywords, then blogs offer an in-road into your industry, allowing you to start ranking for more niche keywords which are easier to rank for.

Blogs allow you to dive deeper into popular topics, or offer bespoke answers to burning customer queries. By creating content tailored to these search terms, you can attract a more engaged audience looking for exactly what you offer.

Blogs are therefore still a highly valuable asset when it comes to increasing your online visibility, placing your products or services in the shop window, and establishing yourself as an authority in your field.

Conclusion

No, blogging isn’t dead in 2025, in fact, it’s more relevant than ever. Whilst it might not be as flashy as dynamic AI-generated content or a clever piece of video marketing, blogging is still one of the most effective ways to generate organic backlinks, boost your trust score, and improve your overall rankings.

So long as people continue to seek in-depth answers, shareable insights, and trustworthy content, blogging will remain a cornerstone of SEO strategy for many years to come. With its unmatched ability to meet user intent, target niche keywords, and build authority, blogging isn’t just surviving in 2025—it’s thriving.
